Carers Week 2025
Carers Week (9 – 15 June) is a national, annual awareness campaign designed to recognise the vital work unpaid carers deliver, and to highlight the challenges unpaid Carers face. The theme this year is “caring about equality”.
Across the whole of Devon there are over 113,600 Carers according to the 2021 census, of which 50% provide at least 20 hours of unpaid care per week.
Who is a carer?
A carer is anyone who provides unpaid care and support to someone who is unable to manage without help, which could be due to illness, disability, mental health needs, addiction or age-related challenges. The support provided by Carers is varied and can include personal care, practical help and emotional support.
Plymouth
Plymouth’s Caring for Carers offers support and signposting for unpaid Adult Carers of an Adult who live in the Plymouth City Council area. Carers can access a range of services from information and advice to training, Peer Support, Carer Assessments and emergency planning.
For information, advice, and support, visit the Help and support for adult family or friend carers, email caringforcarers@improvinglivesplymouth.org.uk or contact the Helpline on 01752 201890.
For Young Carers up to the age of 18 in the Plymouth City Council area support is available from Time4U, which is a partnership between the in-house Community Youth Team and The Children’s Society. Young Carers can access support, specialist advice, group activities and 1:1 support as identified in an assessment. For more information, visit the Time 4 U, email Time4u@plymouth.gov.uk or text or call the Helpline on 07899 950 155.
