Amber cold weather alert

An amber cold weather alert is currently in place for the south west until Friday (12 January).

People are being reminded to take care when travelling, heat the rooms where you spend most of your time, and look out for those who may be more vulnerable to the cold temperatures (such as young children or those over-65).

Under the new Cold Health Alerts system introduced by UKHSA and the Met Office, an amber alert means that cold weather impacts are likely to be felt across the whole health service for an extended period of time, with potential for the whole population to be at risk and where other sectors may also start to observe impacts, indicating a coordinated response is required.
