Upcoming Changes to How You Contact the Surgery
Posted on March 17th, 2026
We are making important improvements to how you contact our GP surgery
These changes are designed to make access easier, fairer, and more efficient for all our patients, ensuring everyone has an equal opportunity to reach us when they need care.
What’s Changing?
From 23rd March, we will be moving to a new online access system called SystmConnect. This change supports new NHS contractual requirements, which set out how GP practices must provide fair, consistent access during core hours.
What This Means for You
» A single, simple way to contact us for all medical, administrative, and prescription-related queries
» Fairer access, ensuring no patient has an advantage based on the time they call or their personal circumstances
» Better matching of patient need to the right service, helping you get the right care sooner
» Improved continuity for follow-up appointments where clinically appropriate
» Faster and more efficient triage, supported by new tools used by our clinical and care navigation teams
Why We’re Making This Change
The NHS has asked GP practices nationally to offer consistent access during opening hours. We have taken everything we’ve learned over the past few years and developed a system that meets these requirements while still prioritising patient safety, continuity of care, and a positive experience. Our team has worked hard behind the scenes to ensure that this transition is as smooth as possible. We are confident these changes will help us continue to provide the high-quality care you expect from us.
What Happens When You Contact Us
Our trained triage team will review your request and direct it to one of the following outcomes:
1. Signposting or Redirecting
Sometimes the quickest way to get you the help you need is to direct you to another service. This may include:
» Pharmacy First for minor illnesses
» Physiotherapy for muscle or joint issues
» Urgent Treatment Centre (UTC) for urgent but non‑life‑threatening problems
» Administrative teams for non-clinical queries
This helps free up GP appointments for people who need medical care from a doctor.
2. Acute / Same‑Day Care
If your issue is urgent and needs attention today, we will arrange:
» A same‑day face‑to‑face appointment, or
» A same‑day clinical call
These are reserved strictly for urgent needs to ensure rapid access for those who need it most.
3. Routine Appointments
If your concern is not urgent, you may be offered a routine appointment, which could be:
» A pre‑booked face‑to‑face appointment, or
» A telephone appointment
Routine appointments may have a wait time of up to 3 weeks, depending on demand.
4. Self‑Book Appointments (Temporarily Unavailable)
We have temporarily removed self‑booking options while we review demand and adjust the system. This helps us make sure appointments are used appropriately and fairly. We will update you once this feature returns.
